DANCE READING FESTIVAL IS BACK!

The hugely popular festival of dance is back in Reading throughout the whole month of November.

With internationally renowned companies such as Jasmin Vardimon, a named practitioner on the A Level syllabus to outstanding local professionals sharing their skills, such as professional dancer and Berkshire local Lewis Cooke, or a baby disco for the whole family!

The festival is encouraging everyone to try something new! Why not experience a virtual reality dance experience, for one audience member at a time, don a VR headset and find yourself immersed in a beautiful and intriguing world of dance, try to navigate the space, guided by professional contemporary dancers whose movement is cleverly woven back in to the digital world before your eyes.

Or how about food and dance? Experience ‘Bodies in Space’, the new performance from Helen Cox, designed to be experienced alongside and within an exceptional 5 course taster menu from food artist Ines Dos Santo. You can expect meringues hung from the ceiling, tables moved and reconfigured from café style to one long table to share food with the rest of the audience, and a specially created cocktail on arrival, all surrounded by the beautiful and gentle performance from choreographer Helen Cox.

Highlights of the festival this year are world famous disability integrated dance company Stopgap, bringing Artificial Things, their iconic performance to Reading. This show is so exceptional it is included in the GCSE syllabus, so here is a chance for students (and the rest of us!) to see it performed, meet the company and enhance their learning. We will also be screening their beautiful dance film of the show, recently shown on the BBC, and filmed in an abandoned office building in Reading. Will you be able to tell which building?

Whatever your experience, there is a workshop for everyone, including beginners and intermediate Street Dance with Leroy from Flawless, Britain’s Got Talent Finalists, and stars of the films StreetDance 3D 1 and 2. Leroy has danced for the Queen, and the Queen of pop Kylie, amongst many others.

Or a special dance class for men. After Lara Spencer’s mocking of Prince George’s ballet study, the backlash saw men sharing their dance experience, all over the world. We want to get more men dancing, so NOCTURN dance are bringing a special class, just for adult men, to strengthen, challenge and express themselves, because Yes Men Dance!
