Read Easy UK, which provides one-to-one reading courses, has now launched its services in Reading, aiming to address the widespread issue of adult literacy. According to the National Literacy Trust, around one in six adults in England have limited or no reading skills, highlighting the urgent need for such initiatives.
Read Easy West Berkshire, a branch of the nationwide organization established in 2023, played a key role in setting up the new group in Reading. The charity emphasizes the importance of local, face-to-face coaching sessions to make it easier for both coaches and learners to participate, enhancing the chances of successful course completion.
The reading groups are supported by donations from local organizations and some grant funding. Volunteer coaches offer confidential, one-to-one sessions in private spaces within public areas, creating a friendly and welcoming environment that encourages adults to seek help with their reading skills.
