DECORATIONS FOR VE DAY

VE Day is a huge day in history where we mark the ending of the war in Europe! To make this day special we all come together to celebrate but with this year taking a turn, we will have to commemorate the occasion at home, so here are our best decoration tips to dress your home up...

BUNTING

BUNTING

Make your flags

1. Print out a template:

2. First of all you need to print out some templates from the internet. Here is a template BBC have provided to print out.

3. Then you cut along the dotted lines.

Or you can make your own template:

1. Take an A4 piece of paper long ways up (portrait)

2. Fold over about 2cm at the top

3. Fold the paper in half long ways

4. Draw a line diagonally from the outside of the paper at the top to the fold in the middle at the bottom

5. Cut along that line through both sides of the paper

6. Unfold your paper

Decorate your bunting

1. Decorate the main triangle but leave the top strip blank

2. You can decorate with anything you want – paint, pencils, collage, glitter, stickers, crayons, pens

3. You can draw anything that inspires you but here are some ideas if you get stuck: A soldier, a union jack, a thank you message or your hero.

Construct your bunting

1. When you’ve decorated all of your flags, fold along the solid black line to make a flap

2. Put the flap over your string or ribbon and glue or tape the flap in place

3. Leave a gap between each triangle and keep adding them until you’re done with a spare bit of string/ribbon on each end for hanging

4. Hang your bunting in your window for people to enjoy!

POSTERS

POSTERS

A poster is a brilliant way to dress up your house showing others what you're celebrating and also giving someting visual for people to look at when they walk past!

How to make a poster

1. First of all you need a piece of paper of card, remember the bigger the better!

2. Then you need to create a design that is eye catching yet informative to those who may not know what VE day is.

3. Or if your artistic skills aren't up to scratch, Here are some designs from VE Day 75.

PAPERCHAINS

PAPERCHAINS

Here's how to make a simple paper chain:

1. Cut colored pages of the VE Day colours into strips 1/2 inch wide.

2. Then cut these strips into 4 or 5 inch lengths.

3. Paste both ends of a strip together, making a circle.

4. Put the next strip through this circle and paste the ends of the second one together, and so on, until you have a chain as long as they want it.

Make these chains out of any kind of paper. Colored construction paper or gold or silver metallic paper is effective as party decorations. A great party decoration!
